Ovulation induction medications help follicles in the ovaries grow and are available as oral medications or injections.Common oral medications include clomiphene and letrozole. Letrozole, also widely known by the brand name Femara, is commonly used in people with irregular ovulation associated with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).Injectable medications containing hormones such as FSH directly stimulate the ovaries to promote follicle growth. Because the ovaries may respond more strongly than with oral medications, multiple follicles may develop. Follicle growth is therefore usually monitored with ultrasound and other tests as needed.In some cases, additional medication may be used to prevent premature ovulation before the follicles are ready.
